DPW Update 15 Sept 2021

The DPW crew has been hard at work fixing road damage caused by all the rain. We have been adding dense grade material, cleaning debris from ditches and washouts as well as grading roads throughout town.  This week we are working on Rood Hill Road, Norfolk Road and Shade Road. Roadside mowing is happening now on Cold Spring Road and will continue into the week of 9/20.

Last week, we replaced culverts due to vehicle damage and storm related issues on Bosworth Road.  This week we are replacing culverts on Fox Road.  We also paved aprons on Shade Road and Bosworth Road using funds from a MassWorks grant.

Two flow devices were installed in swamps on South Sandisfield Road.  The purpose of the flow devices is to keep the water at acceptable levels and hopefully keep the beavers from plugging the culverts. A blocked culvert can quickly cause dangerous and expensive road safety issues.  We are working with Beaver Solutions in addressing the periodic flooding of Cold Spring Road.  To learn more about leveling devices and beaver dam flooding, go to https://www.beaversolutions.com/

Currently, the F350 dump truck is out of service due to a fuel tank leak and the repair shop is waiting for parts to be delivered.  The F350 is scheduled to be repaired at a Ford dealership as soon as parts arrive.  The F550 dump truck is also out of service due to a broken radiator hose and is being repaired at A&M Auto.
