The Town of Sandisfield is seeking applicants for the position of:
PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER
This position reports directly to the Chief of Police and the Fire Chief of Sandisfield. The duties include the protection of life and property through the use of Police, Fire and EMS equipment. The applicant needs to be Certified by the MPTC, at minimum a Reserve Police Officer; Firefighter 1 trained; a licensed Emergency Medical Technician and live within 15 miles of Sandisfield Center.
This position is required to work Monday through Friday;
6am – 8am Coverage Hours, must be available during these hours or ensure coverage is provided
8am – 4pm Core Work Hours. Must be on duty working and available for any emergency
4pm – 6pm Coverage Hours, must be available during these hours or ensure coverage is provided
Schedule may change to meet the needs of the Town of Sandisfield. This position will be based on experience and training.

Public Safety Officer
Coverage 6am – 6pm
Core Hours 8am – 4pm
Duties: 12 hour coverage with 8 Hour Core Work hours, providing day-time coverage for Police, Fire, and Ambulance for any emergencies that may happen during shift hours.
Life threatening Medical Emergencies will take first priority.
Duties that are included in this position other than emergencies are Police, Fire, Ambulance Administrative as requested by the Police and/or Fire Chiefs. Police and Fire time are to be spit 50/50 outside of an emergency.
This may include Equipment and Station maintenance, Inspections and/or any other duties that Police or Fire Chiefs determine needed.
Any service that is provided outside coverage hours, would be paid by the department that services are being rendered for, at that rate and out of that budget.
There will be a 90-day and 180 day performance evaluation during first year.
Requirements:
Massachussetts Drivers License in good standing
Police, Fire and EMT Certified OR minimum of two Certifications at time of application and obtain Certification of the third Certification within 12 months.
Maintain certifications as required by State of Massachussetts
Live within 15 miles of Sandisfield Center
Vehicle that is dependable to respond during outside coverage hours (no take home vehicle available)
Uniforms and Supplies provided as needed
Take direction from Police and Fire Chiefs as needed
Work Hours:
12 hour Coverage on Scheduled days with work hours being an 8 hour Core shift,
5 Day work week Monday – Friday
Daily Coverage:
6am – 8am Coverage Hours, must be available during these hours or ensure coverage is provided
8am – 4pm Core Work Hours. Must be on duty working during these hours and available for any emergency
4pm – 6pm Coverage Hours, must be available during these hours or ensure coverage is provided
Compensation:
$23.00 per hour based on 40 hours, $920 per week
On Call reponses between the hours of 6am – 8am & 4pm – 6pm are paid at time and half rate of $34.50 with a maximum of 100 hours per year. (Estimate only)
40 hours @$23.00 @ 52 Weeks = $47,840.00
On Call @ $34.50 @ 100 per year = 3,450.00
TOTAL $51,290.00
Sick, Vacation Time and Insurance to be provided by the Town of Sandisfield
Benefits for this position would be based on same used for other employees. Based on the agreement that the Town of Sandisfield has with IBOT Local Union 404 (DPW Contract)
